Statement:
I began pursuing my passion for drawing and watercolor in 1989. In 2000, I
had the privilege of helping start the OASIS artist co-op in Harrisonburg and of starting to show my work publicly. In 2006, I transitioned to working primarily in oils.
Nature and architecture are my main subjects. I love to respond to something beautiful, then look at it more carefully to analyze and design a composition that interprets it.
Another body of work is imaginative and symbolic. The Seeker is a painting of a female knight in which I portray the courage and support I have felt in battling personal fears. The Protector Bear Series has been a multi-year imaginative series. It portrays my fantasy of a child in joyful activity with or near a wise and loving protector bear. That series is therapeutic for me and has hit a positive chord with many people.
I live with my folk musician husband, Mel Lee, in Bridgewater, Virginia in a bend of the beautiful North River.
