Mask Designer

Email: janetmarshman@verizon.net

Statement:
Living in Florida at a young age influenced Janet's love of nature's beauty. Discovering worlds of colorful butterflies, subtle hues of seashells, topical greens of plants became her channel for creative vision. The love of nature with color and form continued as expressions of her life.

Not formally trained as an artist, she carried this memory of color and design to the creation of her masks. Being a new mother and finding some extra time in between changing diapers she decided to design a mask for a friend's birthday. It was so well received that she was encourage to make masks as a form of art to sell. Thus began the journey of mask art. Taking a trip to Charlottesville, Janet discovered that her masks would sell and that same day the owner of the gallery placed an order for a dozen masks. From there she was juried into the Richmond Hand Craft Show and then approached galleries on the east coast to carry her masks. "Masquerade" grew over several years until children caught up with her. Having five children in eight years Janet's creative ideas were spirited into forming their potential. Now that her children have reached young adulthood she continues her passion of this art form.

The name MaskMuse expresses the sisterhood of nine greek goddesses who embody the arts and inspire the creative process with their graces through improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance. Because of the history of muses' creative spirit MaskMuse was born. Each mask transports you to the spirit of enchantment and mystique.

As a designer each mask is a unique piece of art. A variety of discoveries such as camera parts, illustrations in old books, children's toys, feathers and natures' finds can become mask art. Anything can be considered as a piece of imagination to complete the soul of a mask.

You will find MaskMuse masks unique, fun, lovely, zany, awesome, enchanting, beautiful or simply WOW! Come join the world of magical enchantment.
